I started acrylic painting in 2009 while in tech school for my brief military career in my early 20's. I have moved through many styles and subject matter since then and transitioned to oil painting. I paint nature, adventure, animals, portraits, political art, and even briefly dipped my toes into some erotica early on (don't worry, you won't see that here).

Pop Art Portraits

After tearing my Achilles in 2021, my painting turned internally. I was gutted by having my ski season torn out from under me and I spiraled into a dark depression. I have always used music and movies as a way to process my own feelings and emotions. I started this portrait series by pouring my all into a emotional piece of Lana Del Rey screaming out her pain. This work had me hooked on this style.

Northern Lights Series

Spring 2023, I discovered an oil painting technique on Instagram to effortlessly create beautiful northern lights. Initially I struggled with it, then once it clicked I cranked out a bunch of small paintings for a spring show at Turnagain Brewing and brought the collection to a pop up show the following month at Girdwood Brewing. Once I figured out the technique, I decided to integrate it with my more traditional animals.

War on Nature

This series of work represents how our world is being torn apart by industry, big business, bad policies, degradation of environmental protections, and climate change in general. The stoic mega fauna stand threatened (and threateningly) amongst mountains scattered in the sky, violently dislodged from the shattered earth.

Adventure

I am inspired by my adventures in mountains and in the rivers. Backcountry snowboarding is my most important outlet. The silence of going up the skin track, taking in the views and constantly evaluating the snowpack, terrain, and weather. The crisp towering mountains make you feel simultaneously small and larger than life. The arduous uptrack followed by the sense of victory when you conquer the summit, and the sense of absolute freedom connecting turns and spraying powder upon descent.
